MIMA PROGRAMS TEACH BASIC MUSIC CONCEPTS…
“BAND TOGETHER” - Our Flagship Collaborative Songwriting Program
“BAND TOGETHER” Is a 15-hour experience for 3rd-12th grade students that teaches basic musical concepts while encouraging creativity, confidence and collaboration through the creation of original songs.
USING THE MIMA METHOD, STUDENTS PRODUCE THEIR OWN RHYTHMS, MELODIES AND LYRICS. THESE ARE ORGANIZED INTO VERSES, CHORUS AND BRIDGE. THE FINAL COMPOSITION IS PROFESSIONALLY RECORDED, PRODUCED AS A MUSIC VIDEO AND/OR PRESENTED AS A LIVE PERFORMANCE.
SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SKILLS
Music harnesses many individual sonic ideas into a single, unified piece, and players must be willing to work together, without ego, for a greater good.
Playing music means making mistakes and overcoming obstacles. Musicians must be decisive, and quickly move on after every transient note of success or failure.
Music combines elements of precise structure and artistic freedom. Players must understand the musical language and then be willing to experiment with it, remaining flexible to solve problems and produce something beautiful.
Creating music as a group requires each player to carefully listen and respond to each new idea while keeping in harmony with the entire band.
In music, it is important to show respect for different players, traditions, rituals, opinions, styles, techniques, and art forms that all have inherent value to particular individuals or groups. We can all find common ground and learn something valuable from that which is seemingly different.
In analyzing and interpreting a piece of music, players must workshop the most and least successful aspects, giving and receiving honest yet sensitive feedback.
