A Virginia Commission for the Arts (VCA) Teaching Organization

MIMA is one of a few music education organizations inducted to the Virginia Commission for the Arts’ Teaching Artist Roster.

Selection for the Roster is based on an organization’s “artistic expertise and ability to deliver and implement high-quality and audience-specific instruction across diverse learning environments.”

VCA grants have made possible much of MIMA’s work over the past decade.

Original Works

MIMA Music facilitated a collaborative songwriting experience at the 2016 LOCKN' Festival's "Participation Row," sponsored by HeadCount. This original song was composed, performed and recorded as a result of 336 individual contributions, including on-site musicians and post-production by students and audio engineers at Charlottesville's Music Resource Center.

Coworkers and volunteers at Innisfree Village, a lifesharing community for adults with intellectual disabilities, perform their original composition "At Innisfree" for loved ones at their annual Family Day celebration. The lyrics of their collaborative song serve as a musical "tour" through the different houses and buildings where the group lives and works together throughout the year.
