Music Education With A Pulse

MIMA (MODERN IMPROVISATIONAL MUSIC APPRECIATION), is AN EDUCATIONAL NONPROFIT THAT Builds COMMUNITy THROUGH collaborative music-making.

WE’RE BASED IN CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.

WE PLAY ALL OVER THE WORLD.

MUSIC EDUCATION WITH A PULSE.

WHAT’S NEW…

In MIMA Remix: A Collaborative Approach to Studio Production we adapt our innovative songwriting methodology to the studio environment. Students play the role of audio producers/engineers and choose a pre-recorded original demo track to transform into a radio-ready single!

CHECK OUT THE MIMA METHOD IN ACTION!

MIMA Music facilitated a collaborative songwriting experience at the 2016 LOCKN' Festival's "Participation Row," sponsored by HeadCount. This original song was composed, performed and recorded as a result of 336 individual contributions, including on-site musicians and post-production by students and audio engineers at Charlottesville's Music Resource Center.

Coworkers and volunteers at Innisfree Village, a lifesharing community for adults with intellectual disabilities, perform their original composition "At Innisfree" for loved ones at their annual Family Day celebration. The lyrics of their collaborative song serve as a musical "tour" through the different houses and buildings where the group lives and works together throughout the year.
